Colin Watson, K534 “Passing Wind”
|
Colin Watson is recorded in the Javelin Association Yearbooks as both a committed sailor and a significant class volunteer, strongly associated with K534 “Passing Wind” and the Stone Sailing Club.
The published officers list indicates that Watson served as Association Secretary in the late 1970s to early 1980s, during a period when Paul Wright remained listed as Chairman. [Javelin Yearbook 1993] He later moved into the top UK role, with the same officers list recording him as Association Chairman from 1985 through 1987. The AGM held at Lowestoft on 29 August 1987 provides one of the clearest contemporary accounts of his leadership. The minutes record Watson opening the meeting as Chairman, thanking outgoing Secretary Bill Hancock, and announcing his retirement from the chair after three years, while signalling an intention to continue helping the class through international committee work and by advancing an overdue international ballot. [Javelin Yearbook 1988] In the subsequent season, the incoming leadership explicitly notes Watson’s move from UK chairmanship into an international role, recording that he had taken on the daunting task of Secretary of Javelin International, and that early progress was already visible through renewed action on the long-delayed international ballot. On the water, Watson appears repeatedly in event results, typically in K534 “Passing Wind” with a variety of crews, including Rob Levison. The Yearbooks also record him as the current holder of the Senior Bowl at the Nationals, a trophy intended to promote and recognise sailing by senior helms. [Javelin Yearbook 1993] |
