Don Ledwith
Role: Class administrator, editor and contributor
Active period: Primarily mid to late 1980s
Biography
Don Ledwith was a long-standing and much-valued administrator and communicator within the Javelin Association during the 1980s. He is best remembered for his behind-the-scenes contribution to the smooth running of the class, particularly through his work on Yearbook compilation, newsletters, reports and results collation.
The Yearbooks repeatedly refer to Don as the individual who is chasing articles, organising copy, and pulling together event reports, often with good-humoured self-deprecation about the scale of the task. His editorial voice and organisational effort played a key role in preserving the history of the class at a time when all reporting was paper-based and volunteer-led.
Although not widely recorded as a front-rank championship helm, Don’s legacy lies in continuity, governance support and record-keeping, ensuring that racing achievements, committee activity and class culture were documented for future generations.
Legacy
Don Ledwith represents the tradition of volunteer service that underpins the Javelin class, the kind of contributor whose work is essential but rarely visible on the results page.
Thank you.
