Biography
Don Reid was a leading Javelin class volunteer and served as Chairman of the Javelin Association of Great Britain from 1988 to 1990, working alongside Peter Whalley as Secretary.
His chairmanship began following the AGM held at Lowestoft on 29 August 1987, when he was elected and immediately took the chair, setting a practical, member-focused tone and driving participation and outreach.
During this period, he also represented the class in wider dinghy-class discussions (including RYA-led meetings), supporting the Association’s external visibility and coordination. Don later wrote a reflective note thanking committee colleagues for their support “during my years as Chairman", marking the handover into the early 1990s.
On the water, Don is consistently associated with Javelin K500, Crois Taraidh, appearing in results and membership records across multiple Yearbooks. Notable recorded performances include 4th overall at the Inland Championships(1986 Yearbook) and a Nationals entry at Pagham YC (September 1989) where Crois Taraidh finished 15th overallwith Don and Ian Reid.
