Rob and Matthew have enjoyed sailing their Javelin Daybreak from Lymington to Cowes almost the same weekend for the past three years. Sailing from Lymington Town Sailing Club across to Yarmouth, to the Needles and over to Cowes to stay over night at UKSA. The Solent provides a great sea experience with a mix of variable tidal flows, waves and many places to stop along the way. The UK Sailing Academy is an excellent destination, we leave our Javelin on a mooring overnight and get showered and changed out of our sailing gear in our en-suite rooms. Walk into Cowes for food and drinks in a variety of bars and restaurants and of course taxi back to UKSA.
Cowes is perfect arriving in the afternoon with the tide and leaving Sunday morning returning to Lymington with the tide. Helped in both direction.
Here's the itinerary:
Long distance travellers, (like us - Loughborough) might like to arrive on the Friday evening: Stay at local B&B's. Travelodge Christchurch £38 -£60 per room
Saturday:
9.30 Park car and Javelin in the public car park next to Lymington Town Sailing Club by the public slip-way. Pay harbour and car park fees for weekend (£17 for both I think)
11.00 Sail across to UKSA Cowes, mooring our Javelins alongside the UKSA yachts. The UKSA has two blocks of ensuite rooms around £40 -£70 B&B each. Book [email protected]
Saturday evening - bar(s) & restaurant in Cowes town, it's about a 15 minute walk from UKSA.
Sunday:
UKSA breakfast buffet (all you can eat) and sail back to Lymington
pack away and drive home.
Overnight clothes: buy two plastic storage boxes and place your clothes inside a bag inside the plastic box. Tape around the lid and slide under the starboard side of the foredeck. You may also want to take a small anchor, flare, mooring rope and mobile phone.
